More about Madrid

June 23, 2008 at 11:12 am (Madrid) (, , , )

This rollercoaster project is so crazy!!  It went from us being there for 3 years, to only 6 months and NOW they’re saying 4 or 5 years!!  Woah.

I need to get so much stuff done!  We decided to get our house rented out ASAP.  We’ll stay in my parents big house until we leave for Madrid in the meantime.  My brain is swirling around right now with everything I need to do!!

  • donate as much stuff as possible to Goodwill
  • list as much stuff as possible for sale
  • pack pack pack pack pack pack

That’s just the beginning.  Then there’s all the legal stuff about renting the house and what not.  But I think I’ll let the husband deal with that.

Clothes for Madrid

June 18, 2008 at 9:36 am (Madrid, Not so bad.) (, , , , )

I found out that I, as a woman, need these essential things in my wardrobe according to Tim Gunn:

  1. Basic black dress – I want a nice shift dress, and maybe a flirty cocktail dress.
  2. Trench coat – I have to find something in person, because of my short legs, most trench coats make me look like a gangster or something.  I think I’d prefer a pea coat…
  3. Classic dress pants – I have tons of black pants.
  4. White shirt – I have quite a few button downs in various sleeve lengths.  And a few tanks, camis and tees.
  5. Jeans – A pair of seven for all mankind, a pair of juicy couture and some ann taylor pairs.
  6. Cashmere sweater – I’ll have to find some.  I’m thinking twinsets.
  7. Skirt – I want a crisp black pencil skirt
  8. Day dress – I have some cotton ones.  I need another, just because I like comfy dresses.  :)
  9. Blazer – Hopefully I can find one that goes with the black pencil skirt I want, so it can be a suit.
  10. Sweat suit alternative – I’ve got some nice tan linen pants that look nice with a white tank.

I think all that stuff can mix and match nicely and I shouldn’t have to pack tons and tons of stuff.  Of course I know me, and I know that I will be shopping when I’m there…so I shouldn’t have a problem running out of things to wear.

Dreaming of Madrid

June 17, 2008 at 9:29 pm (Madrid, Not so bad.) (, , , , , , , , , )

Since last night when the realator came over, I’ve been dreaming of what it will be like to live in Madrid.  I’m really excited.  I’ve found out that the days start late and dinner usually isn’t until like 9pm and later.  Crazy!

I’m going to need to learn how to use the metro.  We don’t really have any good public transportation here and the only time I’ve ever been on a subway was on a couple of trips to NYC where I didn’t even have to figure it out because my friend is a NYer and she knew what she was doing.

I’m also going to need to learn how to use my camera to it’s fullest extent.  My pictures don’t come out nearly as nice as some great work I’ve seen on here and Flickr.  Maybe the husband will let me get a fancy camera…he said I could, but I haven’t asked in months, so he may have forgotten…but then I’d have to learn to use that one, too.

I am pretty good at Spanish already, thanks to 5 years in middle and high school and two semesters worth in college.  But it being a second language, it’s going to take some getting used to once we’re there.

I’m excited to try tapas.  It should be nice to try new things in small quantities.  And maybe I will learn to like wine, since I imagine most of it will be local type stuff and there will be a lot to choose from.

I’m also trying to figure out what to bring with me.  We’ll be there for a minimum of six months and up to three years.  I don’t want to bring a ton of stuff with me.  I want to live a simple life there, and then translate it to life back in the States.  I need to find clothes that are versatile and stylish at the same time.  And comfortable for walking around, but I don’t want to look like a tourist, since I should grow out of the tourist mode after a month or so.

One of the things I am looking forward to the most is buying food at the market.  I am imagining it to be like I wish it were here.  I’m thinking I’ll walk down to the market early in the morning and see what looks good, decide what to make for lunch and dinner and buy it all fresh.  It will be so much nicer to do that instead of going to the ghastly Super Wal-Mart here and buying stuff that was trucked across the country in cardboard boxes before going in the plastic bag with the smiley face on it.

Oh Madrid, when will you get here?!

Spain

June 16, 2008 at 1:49 pm (Not so bad.) (, , , )

I want to talk about Spain.  I’m really excited for our trip.  Well, our move.  I’m sad that we cannot bring Kosmo, but I’m glad we have someone that can take care of him while we explore Europe.

I’m thinking we’re going to stay in the northwest area of Madrid.  That’s where the offices are where Teague will be working.  I’m trying to figure out what it will be like to live there.  I also want to figure out what kind of clothes I should bring.  I want stuff that is easily wash-n-wear.  Literally, I think there won’t be any dryers there…so the stuff I bring should do well hung dry…blech.  I want to bring minimal stuff that I can mix and match.  I have to figure out what the weather is like.  I will be walking most places, so I need comfortable shoes.

Wow.  This is going to be such an awesome change.  I’m thinking I really need it, too.

Back to work

June 16, 2008 at 8:16 am (Dieting, Not so bad.) (, , , , , , , )

Everybody’s favorite time is here!  Monday morning!!  *fail*

I didn’t sleep at all last night.  I cleaned all day, did all the laundry and vaccuumed and changed the sheets.  I took a nice cold shower (I’m weird in the fact that I like cold showers…) and hopped into bed at about 8.  I didn’t fall asleep until at least 4 hours later.  Bah.  I’m still so sleepy!

And I screwed up and stopped for breakfast this morning instead of relying on my low cal staples in the drawer here.  I got some scrambled eggs and potatoes and 2 flour tortillas.  And 2 strips of bacon.  Ick.  I didn’t even finish it all, but I feel soooo gross right now…I could just puke.  I’ve chugged 2 bottles of water just to get the ick factor to go away.

We have a real estate guy coming to the house tonight to tell us our options for what to do with the homestead when we go to espana.  It’d be awesome to rent it out so someone else can pay the note, but then we’d still have to pay for storage and deal with the creeps when we get back after strangers had been living in the house.  I think we should just let it sit there.  Our parents can check on it.  Selling doesn’t seem likely, because we may not get much for it…IDK.

I am planning on making tilapia, corn on the cob (fresh) and baby potatoes for dinner tonight.  I’m not sure of the preparation, so I’ll have to look something up.  Maybe a marinade, but I don’t really want to stop at the store…I guess I have to though, because I don’t have any lemons or anything.  I’ll post the recipe here and take a pic if it’s good.

Today’s to do list:

  • Find recipe for dinner marinade
  • Go tanning
  • Stop at grocery store
  • Dinner
  • Clean up
  • Talk to realator

And just because this is funny:
